1985 Yamaha XJ750 Police Bike – A Ministry of Transport Classic

20 June 2021

Sorry to startle you on a Sunday morning with a Police bike pic! But it's a blast from the past, and we wonder how many of you remember one of these, lights flashing, parked behind you on the side of the road?

On loan to Road and Sport for display is this fantastically original 1985 Yamaha XJ750 Police bike (or technically a Ministry of Transport bike in that era) so we can remember all those times we heard that siren and went "ohhh no".

This bike is restored to genuine, original condition, including new 1985 spec tyres. Everything works - the siren, the lights, the clipboard on top of the little top box where your ticket was actually written, the measuring stick to check the ground clearance on lowered cars, and even the pre-radar digital speedo lock which caught out vehicles in front of the bike.

You can also check out the hydraulic anti-dive suspension run from brake fluid pressure - the harder you squeezed the lever, the more the forks resisted and raised. We've also thrown in a few Harley Police Special pics, just because they're a big part of H-D's 118 year history.

Have a Great Sunday!
